Landline telephones
Swisscom is the traditional provider landline access in Switzerland and still has a monopoly in many areas. An analogue connection costs CHF 25.25 per month while an ISDN connection costs CHF 43. However, other providers, such as Sunrise and Cablecom, offer landline connections in certain locations, often in packages with cable television and home Internet services.
For telephone service, there are many different suppliers from which to choose. The easiest way to order a phone line is through the Swisscom website, which will also assign you a telephone number.
Mobile network
In Switzerland, four operators are licensed to operate a GSM network. They support some 9.5 million mobile lines (Q2 2011) and provide GSM coverage for 99.9% of the Swiss population.
Three operators possess an UMTS license, providing 95% of the population with 3G coverage. The construction of LTE (4G) networks began in 2012. The three dominant networks, Swisscom, Sunrise and Orange, offer nationwide and international products for private and business customers.
Internet
The main Internet providers are identical to the landline providers. Costs vary depending on your preferred subscription and package: it is possible to combine Internet, landline and mobile subscriptions, as well as cable television in some cases. It is best to inquire in a shop or on their websites.
